The MRC CTU PPI Group is responsible for developing, promoting and supporting the active involvement of patients and the public in all clinical studies that are being led by MRC CTU.

Members of the Group provide practical help to staff working on individual studies and promote research around issues relating to PPI within CTU trials.

The group is made up of CTU staff and patients who are actively involved in our work.

Jo Calvert

Jo Calvert is a trial manager working on prostate cancer trial, STAMPEDE.

Ben Cromarty

Ben Cromarty has lived with HIV since 2000 and has an interest in HIV treatment and treatment related issues.

Bec Hanley

Bec Hanley is an adviser on PPI to a number of research institutions and UK charities.

Karen Scott

Karen Scott is a trial manager working on international paediatric TB trials.

Annabelle South

Annabelle is the Policy, Communications and Research Impact Coordinator for the MRC CTU at UCL.

Richard Stephens

Richard Stephens is a cancer patient involved in research since his first trial participation in 1998. He lives in Stevenage.

Kate Sturgeon

Kate Sturgeon is a senior research nurse working on HIV studies and a trial investigating the best dose/duration of antibiotic treatment in children with pneumonia.

Claire Vale

Claire Vale is a senior scientist working on systematic reviews of cancer treatments.

Denise Ward

Denise Ward is a data manager working on HIV prevention trials in adults.

Max Williamson

Max Williamson is a testicular cancer patient who is involved in teenage and young adult cancer research at the National Cancer Research Institute, whilst studying at UCL.

Since the Group was set in up 2011 we have undertaken research and developed resources for patients, carers and members of the public who want to get involved in trials, and for researchers who want to involve them. These are all available as PPI resources.
