Mahesh Parmar made an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours

Mahesh (Max) Parmar, Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology and Director of both the MRC CTU at UCL and the ICTM at UCL, has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). The Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2019, published on 8 June, recognises the outstanding achievements of people across the United Kingdom.
Max joined the MRC in 1987. He has more than 300 publications in peer reviewed journals, many of which have had direct impact on policy, clinical practice and improving outcomes for patients.
Max has been made an OBE for services to Medical Research and Clinical Trials.
When speaking about his recent award, Max said:
"I am obviously delighted to receive this honour. Clinical trials are very large scale collaborative ventures representing team working at its very best. Consequently I regard the honour as a recognition of the quality and work of the hundreds of collaborators across the globe I have worked with over the past 3 decades. Particular mention should go to my colleagues at the MRC CTU at UCL, who might be termed the engine room for the large scale trials and produce the highest quality work to often very pressurised timelines. Finally, I should mention the patients, hundreds of thousands of whom have volunteered for our trials often when they have been recently diagnosed with life threatening diseases. Without their active involvement there would be no trials and we would not have been able to make the significant progress we have."
This year’s Honours List continues to demonstrate the breadth of service given by people from all backgrounds from all across the UK. In total 1,073 people have received an award.
